Operating out of the Faverdale Industrial Estate, Aldi’s regional distribution centre in Darlington is the heartbeat of their operations in the North East of England.
Built in 1993, the number of employees at the 37,000 square metre site has grown healthily over the past few years as the country’s fifth-largest grocer continues to expand its activities.
A series of recruitment drives at the centre has prompted the need for a new cycle enclosure for the company, and our team was called upon to deliver a bespoke solution.
A limited area was allocated for the project, and our team therefore elected to design and install a bespoke York Canopy that would optimise the space available.
With room to secure up to 40 bikes courtesy of our recessed brushed finish stainless-steel Sheffield stands, ultra-secure High Security Grated fencing was chosen to create a heavy duty and secure enclosure to surround, whilst still retaining the aesthetics of the elegant structure behind.
A carefully chosen charcoal grey powder coating was agreed between our design team and Aldi to compliment the area’s sand-lime brickwork, and to match that of the York canopy behind.
Restricted access into the area meant The Bike Storage Company had to employ an MEWP throughout the build process, to ensure the clear polycarbonate panelling could be laid upon the roof without compromising the safety of our installers, such was the difficulty in working between the three pre-existing walls.
Fob operated electronic access control was fitted to ensure the most robust and maintenance free locking solution available would be used the single leaf access gate.
Aldi is known for its market-leading employment practises, and it was a pleasure to help them facilitate their team’s ability to cycle to work and make healthier lifestyle choices.
