Receiving its Royal Charter in 1966, the University of Surrey is home to more than 17,000 students and has developed into an institute at the forefront of research into the 5G mobile technology.
Close to the centre of Guildford, the University’s campus is ideally situated for encouraging students to cycle to classes, and we were therefore called upon to provide them with a suitably capacitive cycle storage unit that would futureproof the increase in cycling for years to come.
Following the success of this project, our team was subsequently requested to provide a bin store for the site.
With the institute committed to embedding sustainability across all its operations, teaching and research, our team sought to deliver an environmentally friendly solution that could match the client’s values.
With the team proactively seeking to minimise the build’s impact on the environment, we opted to design and install a bespoke Canadian red western cedar clad bin store for the university. Designed with an attractive pergola style roof, this unit is a wonderful addition to the surrounding campus.
The Canadian cedar tree’s capacity for carbon sequestration also makes it a brilliant choice in sustainable build initiatives, whilst the wood’s natural lightness means it has relatively low emissions during transportation than a hardwood of similar durability properties. Its tendency to weather in a silver/grey colour over time has underlined its global popularity in high spec building projects.
