Cambridge Science Park | 48 Space Amazon Eco Store

Established in 1970 by Trinity College Cambridge, the Cambridge Science Park is a 1.7 million sq ft site comprised of a mix of buildings providing laboratory and office space dedicated to high technology.

Europe’s “oldest and most successful” science park, it is home to over 7,000 workers across more than 130 companies.

The park has a strong focus on helping its workers achieve the right work-life balance, with a strong focus on cycling, and our team was hired to help facilitate this by delivering a new cycle shelter to the site.

Our solution

To deliver upon this project, our team provided a free survey to analyse the best solution for the available space.

To meet the client’s objective of providing a long-lasting, high security shelter with a high volume of spaces, a bespoke 48 Space Amazon Eco Store utilising composite cladding was developed and installed by our team.

By choosing composite cladding, this shelter delivers a low-maintenance and durable cladding option that is highly rot resistant.

This material choice also means its colour will not change significantly over time, with the combination of natural and synthetic fibres ensuring consistent colouration.

To reinforce the shelter, an internal layer of 50mm x 50mm Security Mesh Fencing was installed to provide additional security for its users.

Swing gates with a Borg Digi Lock were also installed for access control to and from the shelter.

24 Two Tier Cycle Racks were installed in the shelter to provide 48 bike parking spaces for the park’s cyclists.

Finally, plastisol eaves flashing, a box metal roof and guttering, all coloured to a charming goosewing grey to provide a striking contrast to the rich tones of the composite cladding, were installed to the shelter.

Our team was also commissioned to provide the science park with an accompanying composite cladding Amazon Eco Bin Store.

The store has the capacity to hold six bins, providing the park with a clearly defined refuse zone that facilitates a tidy and hygienic site.

A heavy-duty welded hasp and staple lock and drop bolts were installed onto the bin store to ensure it is secure from unauthorised access.
