University of Birmingham – Premium Amazon Two Tier Cycle Shelter

The University of Birmingham is a Russell Group university with notable alumni including former prime ministers Stanley Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain.

With over 38,000 students and 4,000 staff, it is a bustling campus that faces the usual daily challenges that come with this high footfall.

To encourage active commuting to and from the university, we were commissioned to design, manufacture and install a new shelter at the site.

Our solution

With the University of Birmingham boasting a state-of-the-art multi-million-pound campus, the client sought a high-end cycle shelter in keeping with the vibrant red brick institute.

After consulting with the university, the Premium Amazon Two Tier Cycle Shelter was identified as the ideal solution to meet their needs.

This shelter was built using distinctive FSC-certified Thermopine, with the timber installed in a custom panelling pattern that adds a unique aesthetic appeal.

The shelter has been installed with uprated 80mm steel square hollow section framework, with the fascia also clad in Thermopine timber, creating a durable structure that doesn’t detract from its eye-catching design.

Three single leaf galvanised 358 mesh gates with Digi Locks were installed on the shelter, providing high security storage and user-friendly access control.

This fencing and the galvanised framework were all given a jet-black powder coating, providing a clean finish that compliments the rich hue of the surrounding wood.

Sheffield Stands were installed on the lower tier of the shelter, offering convenient parking and a footprint that minimises the build-up of litter and debris.

Accompanying these are our Gas Assisted Upper Tier Racks, providing high-density storage and an easy user experience for cyclists.

A beautiful sedum roof was also installed to compound the green credentials of this timber shelter.

A visually pleasing addition to this already-striking shelter, this roofing system offers numerous benefits, including supporting local biodiversity.
