4 Elthorne Road | Bespoke bike shelters and street furniture

Situated in Archway, north London, 4 Elthorne Road is a former warehouse that has been carefully renovated into a modern office space.

Part of this renovation has included delivering a distinctive external area befitting of this ambitious project, and our team was commissioned to deliver upon this.

The project

After our initial consultation with the client, it was apparent that this installation would prove a step away from our usual projects.

Whilst most of our clients elect for galvanised steel to deliver a rust resistant finish to their products, this project arrived with a unique twist when Corten steel was requested for many of the items.

An alloy that contains elements such as copper and chromium, Corten steel rapidly forms a protective oxidised layer that provides long-term resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

It also delivers a striking weathered finish that provides a rustic aesthetic that emulates the outdoor art scene that proliferated in the 1960s.

At the heart of this project were two bespoke Cambridge Cycle Shelters with unique 50mm box section upright designs to account for the limitations of the space.

Galvanised Semi Vertical Bike Racks and Sheffield Stands were installed to deliver 73 cycle spaces and provide a memorable contrast to the surrounding materials.

Finally, polycarbonate roofing was installed to create a weather protecting cover.

This was a large project that not only required numerous bike parking spaces but gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our street furniture skills.

A Bespoke I-Beam Pergola Shelter with a polycarbonate roof and oversized European Oak timber rafters was installed alongside the bike shelters to provide a protected area for socialising.

To compliment the cycle parking and seating provisions, various timber growing beds and steel planters were added, providing a welcome touch of greenery to the site.

The team also installed timber fencing to add a natural finish to a relaxing green space that stands out from its urban surroundings.

All our wooden products utilise FSC-certified timber, ensuring that they contribute to sustainable forestry.
