Carlton High Security Shelter | The University of Birmingham

In recent years, the University of Birmingham has invested substantially to provide the necessary facilities to “enable and encourage staff and students to ride to campus”.

These efforts have included appointing The Bike Storage Company to deliver a bespoke cycle store earlier this year, with our team successfully designing, manufacturing and installing a memorable Premium Amazon Two Tier Cycle Shelter at their campus.

After glowing feedback from their team on completion of this previous project, we were delighted to once again be called upon to expand their existing cycle storage facilities.

 

Our solution

After discussing the university’s needs, a bespoke Carlton High Security Shelter was identified as the optimal product for this project.

Built from hot dipped galvanised framework, this shelter boasts uprated 80mm Square Hollow Section uprights to minimise the risk of cut-in attempts; these uprights were then timber-cladded to provide an eye-catching visage.

The shelter was also cladded in high security Twin Wire Fencing, specifically chosen due to its robust design being resistant to both cutting and climbing attempts.

This fencing was powder coated jet-black, ensuring that it is highly rust resistant whilst not compromising on visual appeal.

A single leaf gate with Digi Lock means that the university can easily control access to the shelter, providing additional confidence to its users that their property is safe.

A box profiled sheet metal roof set within glass reinforced plastic fascia was also selected, providing a modern yet robust finish to the structure.

Finally, 18 galvanised Sheffield Cycle Stands were installed to accommodate up to 36 bikes.

With all our products coming with a 10-year manufacturing defects warranty, this is a high security shelter that will undoubtedly stand the test of time.

It was fantastic to revisit the university having worked alongside them previously and we are delighted with the results of this high security installation.
