Hawkins Road, Colchester – Bike and Bin Storage for Student Accommodation

Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) is in high demand as the UK’s leading reputation on the university world stage continues to attract both domestic and international students. In the summer, construction works concluded at Enso, a 282-bed PBSA scheme in Colchester.

The Enso project began in 2021 and finished construction in under two years. Student accommodation provider CRM will run the scheme, and the first students moved in this September.

Situated on Hawkins Road, just a short walk of under 20 minutes from the University of Essex, the location offers great transport links. The nearby Hythe railway connects directly to Colchester mainline station, making it convenient for students.

The Bike Storage Company was contacted by Watkin Jones plc to design, manufacture and install three types of bike storage for the site, as well as a bespoke Amazon Eco Bin Store.

For the primary cycle storage area for the site intended for the residents of the accommodation, we built a 100 space Amazon Eco Two Tier Cycle Shelter, with gas powered upper tiers for ease of use and our ever-popular Sheffield stands on the lower tier for efficiency.

Alongside the 100 space shelter, we provided 6 Vertical bike lockers for a premium, personal storage solution and finally we provided some easily visible and accessible stainless steel Sheffield stands at the entrance of the building for visitors to the site.

All timbers used in the construction of our timber clad shelters and enclosures are responsibly sourced and our innovative cycle storage solutions enabled the development to become one of Colchester’s most sustainable PBSA schemes, achieving a BREEAM “Excellent” rating.
