Lanark Road, Maida Vale – 16 Space Amazon Eco Enclsoure

One of the leading construction companies in the South East of England, Allenbuild (now part of the Places for People Group) was founded in 1946 – specialising in delivering low-cost housing.

With our team having wide experience in providing complex bike storage solutions across the UK and Ireland, Allenbuild reached out to us to assist on their new mixed-use development at Lanark Road in Maida Vale.

Our solution

This was an interesting project to be a part of, the client requiring a substantial number of both internal and external cycle spaces for the development, with limited access into the site and a tight completion timeframe.

After consulting with the architect at length, we agreed we would provide the client over 150 internal cycle spaces, utilising a mix of Two Tier Racks, Semi Vertical Racks and Sheffield Stands. This combination of racks was required in order ensure usable cycle spaces in areas of differing floor to ceilings heights, where we found that a double stacked solution could only be used comfortably in one area.

A further three Bespoke Amazon Eco Cycle Enclosures were to be built externally, strategically positioned around the site to benefit tenants in each of the different blocks. The Amazon Eco Cycle Enclosure has proven to be our most popular unit to date, with numerous timber and specification upgrades available, depending on the architectural specification and budget constraints.

With the clear brief given to us of minimising cost without compromising longevity, we employed a PEFC clear sealed whitewood throughout the stores. Whilst bright in colour after first installation, this timber has proven to weather into a natural silver-brown over time, akin other more expensive timber alternatives.

Whilst Secured by Design did not play a part in Lanark Road, BREEAM was at the forefront of our negotiations. Both internal and external cycle spaces were designed to ensure the best possible BREEAM assessment, which would recognise the efforts made to ensure fully operable, secure storage solutions had been employed throughout the development.
