Secured by Design Two Tier Bike Rack

 
 
The standard Two Tier Cycle Rack is a well-proven product. Specifying the Secured by Design variant adds something the standard rack cannot offer: an independently verified security rating, awarded only after Sold Secure physically tested the rack against an enhanced tool list and confirmed it held. The resulting Police Preferred Specification status means that when a planning officer, procurement team or BREEAM assessor asks for evidence that cycle storage meets a recognised security standard, there is a certificate to show them, not just a specification sheet.
 
The structural upgrades address the weak points specific to manual two tier racking. Two locking hoops are welded together to form a single 10mm thick plate at every parking position, substantially increasing resistance at the primary point of attack. A 3mm plate covers the gap between the outer and inner, closing an access point that the standard rack leaves open. Increased material thickness to the locking hoops and end caps, a 5mm rear end cap, and security fixings with armour rings at every connection complete the upgrade.

Our Secured by Design variant builds on this proven platform with Sold Secure Silver accreditation and Police Preferred Specification status, giving architects, developers and contractors a security-certified two tier rack for projects where independently accredited cycle storage is required.

Independently Tested Security

The Sold Secure Silver rating means this rack has been independently tested against a defined tool list including heavy manual and light electrical tools. For specifiers working to Secured by Design guidelines, local planning conditions or client security briefs, it provides documented evidence of attack resistance and a clear, auditable compliance route that standard, non-certified racks cannot offer. Standard & Gas-Assisted Configurations

The Secured by Design Two Tier Cycle Rack is available in two configurations to suit project requirements and user expectations:

  • Standard Two Tier: The upper tier slides out and lowers using a counterbalanced mechanism, providing a simple loading and unloading process without external assistance. A cost-effective, low-maintenance solution for high-density environments.
  • Gas-Assisted Two Tier: The upper tier operates using tamper-proof gas struts, enabling smooth, controlled lowering and lifting with minimal effort. Ideal for developments where ease of use and accessibility are priorities. Available with a choice of V1 or V2 CHS handles to suit user preference and project specification.

Both configurations feature staggered rack heights for improved accessibility. Sheffield Cycle Stands are supplied as standard on the lower tier, offering enhanced compatibility for larger bicycles and e-bikes. Lower channel options are available as an upgrade to suit specific project requirements.

Space-Optimised Layout

The two tier system effectively doubles parking capacity compared to single-tier racks, making it the go-to solution for constrained internal areas. Standard spacing is 375mm centres on single-sided installations and 400mm centres on double-sided layouts, with bespoke spacing available on request. The modular format allows racks to be expanded to match current and future demand across phased developments.

Durable & Low Maintenance

Constructed from hot-dipped galvanised steel to BS EN ISO 1461:2022, the rack is built for long-term performance in high-traffic environments. Optional polyester powder-coating in any standard RAL colour allows the rack to integrate with the architectural setting of the site. Tamper-proof gas struts on gas-assisted models are engineered for sustained daily use with minimal servicing requirements.

I was skeptical to begin with (big project costing a lot of money) but all fears were allayed once I started to converse with James and the team. Along with the fact that it wasn't my project to begin with, I had picked it up from someone else who had left the school and had all the quotes.

I found the service offered by The Bike Storage Company professional, accommodating and delivered to timescale. The guys in the office were responsive to emails and actually answered questions regarding the installation and the engineers that came to put up the bike shelter actually took on board site specifics in terms of the student start and finish times and also cordoned off the works to ensure safety. Really great service offered and I'd be happy to come back and get any other projects done in the future which I think the school is planning to do. We've also seen a massive increase in student's that ride to school as well which is great!
